X is about to start hiding all likes

A corporate source claims that X is launching private likes as soon as today. This implies that platform preferences will be concealed by default, something that X's Premium subscribers can currently do. Elon Musk, the owner of X, reshared a screenshot of the story after it was published, stating that it's "important to allow people to like posts without getting attacked for doing so!" Haofei Wang, X's head of engineering, stated a few weeks ago that the impending modification is intended to safeguard users' reputations because "many people feel discouraged" to enjoy "edgy" content. There will be no more Likes tab on user profiles. Per X senior software engineer Enrique Barragan, users will still be able to see who liked their posts and the total number of likes, but they won't be able to view who liked other people's posts. (He also made a post today hinting at the launch.) Wang remarked last month, "You'll be able to like without worrying who might see it soon." Musk informed the platform's engineers late last year that he intended to completely do away with the tweet action buttons in favour of emphasising post views, sometimes known as "impressions." A source informed me at the time that Musk thought likes weren't necessary, therefore his goal was to completely delete the part that included the repost and like buttons. The insider stated, "This makes sense; social media is moving away from like counts overall." "It seems to me that Musk is merely trying to distance himself from Twitter more and more."
